These have been in use in Japan for a long time. I lived in Japan in the 70's along the coast near Zushi . There was an old guy who had one of these machines and he would drive it up and down the beach from town to town cleaning out these mooring areas for the local fishermen. It was a lot of fun to watch.
Lots of people are saying that this is too slow or the wrong way to do it, that dredging would be better. But Japan only has a limited number of dredgers available. After the tsunami they had hundreds of harbours this size to repair and nowhere near enough machines to do it. Especially since many of those dredgers were also wrecked by the tsunami. So they did what the Japanese often do: they got creative and adapted what they had to hand. I think these machines are another fantastic example of Japanese ingenuity.
The D155W was introduced in 1971 and was the first amphibious bulldozer, a development of the first radio-controlled bulldozer which was introduced in 1967. One went to Chernobyl in the late 1980s. I wonder how many of the early '70s ones are still going?
The wreck of the one that went to Chernobyl can still be found in the Jupiter Plant in Pripyat, between the administrative building and the production hall. But it's missing most of the internal components, tracks, basically it's an empty husk, though it retains some of the iconic green paintjob.
Holy hell i was expecting to see an operator with a aqualung sitting in the seat operating it until i spotted the guy with the controller. Dammed amazing...
I'm right there with you. Dubai is probably a huge customer, with their reclamation projects of the sand shaped development and others planned and some completed, and visible from space. The time below is way too long to dive a day's worth, but why is the controller operator walking. Hell I'd be in a swivel easy chair, sippin suds, and doing wheelies. The only thing close to this in the fun factor, ,is the John Deere 764 HSD (High Speed Dozer). The coolest thing about it, is not the ease, (although put a rookie in in the morning, and he's a star by lunch with the toys attached auto leveling via gps etc) so much than the fact that it no longer tears up your fine grading by turning. Off topic possibly but still relevant to cool dozers, and exclusive abilities. This thing has got to be busy making deep water docks in rich neighborhoods like on the Inter Coastal Waterway in Fl.
Getting a sea monster vibe from these things 😳 the last part with it coming up from the water was very Godzilla, like fittingly for a Japanese machine, lol

because diesels and hydraulics are waterproof as it is.. alternate the cooling system and make the controls R/C seems much cheaper. plus theyre everywhere.
Operator as a young kid playing with his RC car in the living room... his mom says: "is that all your ever going to do is play with remote control toys?" Kid: "yup, I sure am"
This seems extremely inefficient. Yes it is pretty cool but I can think of several different ways to accomplish that job faster, cheaper and better. Drag-lines and dredges come to mind right off the top of my head.

no doubt... a small 10" or even an 8" cutterhead... don't know why the trackhoes couldn't walk out there further before the dozers came in... looks real shallow
Both..they built them through the 70's & possibly early 80's as required....The construction company that runs them was originally a Komatsu-owned company also.

Only 36 of these were ever made
What I'd give to operate one of these beasts or have the opportunity to witness them in action! Definitely the peak of Komatsu engineering.

Bro these are nothing new. They were made in the 70s. It's not something they rigged together after the tsunami
Concept borrowed from WW2 era U.S tanks. Been around for decades.

What do you do for a living? I drive a damn bulldozer submarine now buy me a beer.
but, it's remote control, so is it really worth a beer? My 7 year old has remote control cars I don't buy him beers.. ;) lol 2:23 shows operator...
@@bongwatermilkshake3001 comment was from 5 years ago
@@bongwatermilkshake3001 you still have to know what your doing lol.
Only in Japan .What an outstanding idea

😂 Muly fist impression too
I did this job for a while in the sea of Cortez. It's not a bad gig but it takes a long time to be able to hold your breath that long.
Lmao, bullshit, they're remote controlled.
+dozer1642 Ever heard of diving equipment?
@@THESNAKE8 It's called "dry humor".
Some of us got the joke...
love how they are wearing hard hats. XD
bahaha... good one.. in case they fall in
It is 1968 that it was developed
I operate it by remote control
at 4:01 to the back right rear of the machine it looks like a seal popped up to the surface and then submerged again ! what do you think ??
dude you are right!!
Getting a sea monster vibe from these things 😳 the last part with it coming up from the water was very Godzilla, like fittingly for a Japanese machine, lol
Wonder if you can hear the backup alarm underwater? LOL
It was changed to a sonar signal to warn the fishies
Can probably hear it four miles
Kind of steampunk, like something Captain Nemo might have.
What a great idea. An expensive idea...but still a great one.
Why expensive?
They need to do that in the Susquehanna river in central Pennsylvania.
i've never seen anything like this befor!
You need to get out to underwater construction sites more.
Coolest thing I've seen all week!
You cant see down there so how do they know what they`re doing?
the Pacific Ocean: "no vehicle can drive underwater in the ocean! unless your a submarine!"
Komatsu D155W: *"IM ABOUT TO END THIS OCEAN'S WHOLE CAREER"*
is the engine air cooled
Probably.
i think is water cooled , like a marine engine.
Eloy Fernandez It was a joke of cause its water cooled it`s under water ! lol !
Oh you have an R/C car? That's cute.
because diesels and hydraulics are waterproof as it is.. alternate the cooling system and make the controls R/C seems much cheaper. plus theyre everywhere.
Wow!! tractores totalmente sumergibles!!!!
Operator as a young kid playing with his RC car in the living room... his mom says: "is that all your ever going to do is play with remote control toys?"
Kid: "yup, I sure am"
Awesome 👍🙏
There may be underwater cameras that allow the operator to watch the blade's loading.
ese things operated??? Remote or is there someone jammed in there???
I wonder how long it can run out of the water without overheating?? The cooling system must depend on the water surrounding it.
D155W
how is this controlled? by remote control?
I hope the fuel cap is on tight.
I could make a fortune digging clams with that beast !
China Mieville's "Covehithe" from 2:09
Wow! What a cool Machinery?... I like it!
does it come with sonar, and a fishing pole holder?
I remember seeing these in a book i had when i was just a little kid.
Hollywood: "Okay, let's re-shoot Dante's Peake, only instead of a Suburban with a snorkel, we'll work in an underwater bulldozer. Hear me out..."
This seems extremely inefficient. Yes it is pretty cool but I can think of several different ways to accomplish that job faster, cheaper and better. Drag-lines and dredges come to mind right off the top of my head.
Larry Poston Dragline is the proper tool, or extended reach excavator on flotation
Larry Poston Engineering an underwater bulldozer is also a lot of effort. Theres always a reason people do ridiculous shit like this.
Derrick Blackburn I agree.
Larry Poston probably too shallow
Derrick Blackburn yep, like being bored with 8 mil in the back pocket.......
Looks ilike they are radio controlled. And this is in what whay better then barge with excovator on top?
where is it? donde es?
How do they know what they’re doing underwater? Are there cameras fitted?
I doubt there's cameras - you wouldn't be able to see anything with all the silt being stirred up.
Skilled operators I guess.
Just found out its Remote Controlled.
Nahuel Mariansky
yeah thats the hard workers sitting on the wall!
Rod Halstead LOL!!
Dude these things r awesome😱💯 i want one🤣
"Marco"......... "Polo"
😂😂😂
How does the operator hold their breath so long? 👀🤔
I bet they don't overheat.
Only 35 of these machines were ever produces
only in Japan!
and I thought it was a pain to water proof my Electric R/C truck... Damm!
Some underwater shots be nice,Japan ain't worried about the epa
yes, but why? that is my only question why
seems like it would contaminate the water if there were to be a fuel or hydrolic leak
Nice would that work for gold dredging
Amazing machine
How do the operators hold their breath for so long??
+SMGJohn Lighten up, John, it was just a joke... : )
"How did that go again? Triangle, circle, cross, cross, square.. no, triangle, circle, square, square... dammit, I'll never get this cheat memorised..."
Underrated comment
EXTREEM R/C! Sweet! Dear Santa...
I’d guess a cubic yard a minute tops. But mob-demob damned cheap. Rare ground that a crawler can work underwater.
Probably couldn’t see shit.
Since the tsunami, they've never been busier...all 5 remaining machines were fully restored & rebuilt...very efficient dozers...
My ass thought the operator is under there also lmao
A dredge would be more suitable for the job, lol.
StormLaker1975 Go and rent one for them to use you bitch!
no doubt... a small 10" or even an 8" cutterhead... don't know why the trackhoes couldn't walk out there further before the dozers came in... looks real shallow
Storm Laker is mad
And then it breaks down under water ?????
stick a tow line on it & pull it out & onto dry land..not a problem...
fucking awsum job Komatsu!
The machine is really cool, but the process they are doing is inefficient. You need a dredge.
Thomas D Harrell How do you know what and how they were doing!
The internet is so full of miserable shithouses like you!
Jesus!
Dredge is expensive & logistically clumbersome & inefficient
Seems like a dragline or clamshell would be more productive here.
Good stuff... I did watch a vid showing bulldozers working under water.
They are dredging the entrance making it deeper.
they call him...........SNORKY
So is there someone inside or is it remote controlled? That would be claustrophobic as fuck if you have to work in that thing
Super!
This is cool. any driver inside? how he can drive, can he see?
they are remotely controlled see the guy on the ledger there
Thank you Bryce, That makes sense.
How is that EVEN POSABLE
Its like something from the mind of Dr Seuss but real.
that was pretty crazy
is the Komatsu D155w is build in 1973 or 1974? give me a answer..
Both..they built them through the 70's & possibly early 80's as required....The construction company that runs them was originally a Komatsu-owned company also.
Me-So what do you do for a living?
These guys-play with remote controlled dozers underwater
Me-yeah ok
Me after the vid-well son of a...
Someone needs to learn how to operate an excavator...
R2D2's bigger brother
It would be more efficient to have someone in scuba gear operating it
I want this job so bad! :O
Murdika
Im pretty sure they didnt forget the wiper blades
Hahahhahaha
buldozer per lavori subacquei ,ottimo non li avevo mai visti prima ......dove stanno in giappone
Perfect for Patrick when. Squidward blocks access to his rock and won’t let him build a new road to get there.
I thought his last name was Star, not Heemeyer?
It would be a bitch to work on if it ran out of fuel whilst underwater or worse yet had a serious mechanical break down....
Looks like a very in-officiant use of fuel
I’m sure we could give you a shovel to do it with instead…. What’s your better way?
bella macchina
how does the operator hold his breath? ha ha ha aren't they remote controlled? I didn't see any operator station....I will look again
look at 2:09 there is 2 operators
Wonder what happens when they run it out of diesel. Doh.
This is not fun, this is disturbing. He doesn't even see what he plowing.
